Emotional Asphyxia is an experimental artist's video exploring memory, grief, spirituality, and transformation.
The work is based on photographs of angels found in cemeteries, digitally transformed through a meticulous frame-by-frame creative process. Every single frame was individually reworked before being assembled into the final animation, creating a slow and contemplative visual experience rather than an automated digital effect.
The motion of the angels evokes a suspended presence between absence and memory, life and death, the material and the spiritual. Rather than telling a linear story, the video invites viewers into a meditative space where time slows down and the boundaries between reality and remembrance gradually dissolve.
This work is part of the ongoing artistic project Emotional Asphyxia, an interdisciplinary body of work including artist's books, assemblages, installations, photography, painting, and video. Through these different media, the project investigates the fragility of human existence and the transformation of personal grief into collective memory.
Biography
Matjaž Diego Zadel Dellamorte is a Slovenian visual artist based in Piran. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and later specialized in the restoration of frescoes and wall paintings at the International University of Art (U.I.A.) in Venice. He also completed studies in pedagogy at the University of Ljubljana.
His artistic practice encompasses painting, printmaking, photography, artist's books, assemblage, installation, and video. His works have been exhibited in Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia, and he has participated in international contemporary art events, including the Oggetto Libro – International Biennial of Artist's Books and Design in Milan and the Majski Salon of the Slovenian Association of Fine Arts Societies (ZDSLU).
